What to expect in your first online therapy session:

Starting therapy can feel both exciting and a little bit intimidating, especially if it’s your first time meeting with a therapist virtually.

The good news is that virtual therapy is designed to make the process as easy and comfortable as possible! All you need is a private space, a good internet connection, and a willingness to show up just as you are. Cozy blankets and your favorite warm beverage are also encouraged.  

In your first session, we won’t necessarily be “diving in” to all your problems. It’ll be more so getting to know what makes you, well, you! We’ll talk about what brings you to therapy, what’s been feeling hard lately, and what you hope to gain from our work together. You don’t have to have perfect answers. In fact, many clients come in simply knowing something feels off or stuck but can’t quite figure out what it is.

Over time, we’ll dig deeper into those thoughts and feelings to uncover what it is you’d like to work on.

We’ll also go over the practical side of therapy: confidentiality, scheduling, and how telehealth works.

Most clients are surprised by how natural online therapy feels once they settle in.

Therapy isn’t about being “fixed,” it’s about feeling seen, understood, and supported as you navigate your life.

Your first session is simply the beginning of that process. It’s a gentle, yet brave step towards clarity, relief, and personal growth. You got this!
